Boy Scout Troop 160 was chartered in 1956 at Centenary United Methodist Church.  The troop has continually maintained that charter at Centenary United Methodist Church and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006.  The troop is “owned” by a chartered organization, which receives a national charter yearly to use the Scouting program as a part of its youth work.  Each chartered organization provides a meeting place, selects a Scoutmaster, appoints a troop committee, and chooses a chartered organization representative.  Troop 160 meets in a freestanding structure (the “Scout Hut”) on the church property.  This structure is only used for scouting activities.  The troop also has full use of other church facilities when needed.  This includes the sanctuary (which is used for Courts of Honor and Eagle ceremonies), the fellowship hall (which is used for Courts of Honor and family fellowship meals), and classrooms (which are used for patrol meetings, merit badge classes and Boards of Review).

We currently have scouts who attend the following schools: Grimsley High School, Western High School, Kaiser Middle School, Lindley Elementary School, Bishop McGuinness High School, Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, Ragsdale High School, St Pius X Catholic School, and The Academy at Lincoln.  As of Summer of 2018 our troop has 45 active Scouts. Troop 160 has an adult leadership staff that plans monthly camping or outings for the scouts to participate in. They continue to encourage the scouts to have fun while learning and advancing toward the rank of Eagle.  We do community work, fundraising and special projects throughout the year.  The leadership is passed down through the older scouts to the younger scouts.  There is self-reliance taught to all scouts and practiced at all the meetings and activities.  From planning meals and cooking on campouts to organizing Eagle projects, the scouts always participate in every aspect of the learning experience.
